Monthly Family Involvement Activities

One word you will hear often to describe our center is family-oriented. You will see this in how we interact with the children and in the intergenerational component of our program but you also see it in our desire to be the best resource we can be for our families. We want our parents to be confident parents--parents who can take what their children are learning at school and apply it at home. One of the ways that we accomplish this goal is through our monthly Family Involvement Activities.
These events often happen on the 3rd Thursday of the month and typically include dinner and an activity. In the past these events have included themes such as Family Movie Night, Hawaiian Luau, Multi-cultural Night, and Garden Party.

These activities have three goals:
**To encourage to families to engage. So often, once a child is picked up from school, the nighttime
routine begins with dinner, bath, and bed leaving little time for meaningful interaction. We want to     create space at least once a month for families to engage together.
**To encourage families to network. These events are a great opportunity for families to network with
other families and create a community of support.
**To encourage families to connect. Family involvement activities give parents the chance to interact
with our teaching team outside of the typical drop-off and pick-up routine and this fosters a stronger      relationship between home and school.

Studies have suggested that parental involvement in their child's education has many benefits. Becoming involved in your child's school life is a powerful way to encourage educational success. When parents are involved in their child's school life, the children have higher attendance rates, better grades, higher standardized test scores and fewer behavior problems at school. Further, more parental involvement leads to higher high school graduation rates, as well as a better chance that children will enroll in college. Students also exhibit more positive attitudes and behavior, increased motivation and better self esteem when parents are involved in their education.

We are grateful for the partnership we have with our parents and are confident that building these bridges between home and school with help ensure academic success now and later in life.
